Testing Two-Slot Outlets
Step 2: Make sure you know how to shut off the power to the outlet. Your main service panel may be a circuit breaker (like the one shown here) or may be a fuse box. Determine which breaker or fuse controls the outlet you are working on and then turn off the power to that outlet by throwing the breaker or removing the fuse.
