ISI Enrolls 50 Colleges in
$500,000 "Focus on Remediation" Demonstration Pilot July 8, 1999
Company Awards Grants for Software, IT Consulting, and Web-Based Management to 50 Colleges in US and abroad Instructional Systems Inc. (ISI) has selected 50 colleges for participation in a demonstration pilot that will help schools offer traditional remediation courses via distance learning. The pilot program will be free for 500 students at schools affiliated with the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC). The community colleges chosen to participate in the Focus on Remediation program will receive ISI's math, reading, and writing mechanics remediation courseware as well as an Internet-based student management system. Students will be able to use the remedial material for as long as they need to,--until they pass the college entrance exams. ISI's courseware and management systems are valued at $1,000 per student. The Focus on Remediation grant project is designed to help community colleges enhance their distance learning programs. It is a performance based program. Students can start at any time and finish at their own pace, whenever they're prepared to pass the college's entrance exams. ISI's remedial math, reading, and writing mechanics courses are accessible on any computer with access to the World Wide Web. The courseware runs completely over the World Wide Web. Students use the Internet to communicate with teachers and mentors. Student progress via tests and quizzes is automatically logged to secure Internet sites. ISI is the national leader in educational and career-specific software.
