Delivering
ISI courseware where you need it
When students can’t
come to where important training is being offered, ISI can
bring the courseware to them with Distance Learning solutions.
ISI maximizes the benefits of the worldwide telecommunications
infrastructure -- enabling students to learn and communicate
with mentors from any location, at any time. This is a major
improvement over legacy distance-learning programs that required
participants to convene simultaneously in a traditional “class”
format.
For example, since
1997, ISI and Union County College (UCC) in New Jersey have
formed a unique partnership to create a take-home laptop distance
learning program called “Project Learn.” (Passaic
County Community College joined the Project Learn partnership
a few years later.) Most of the project participants are female
welfare-to-work participants who are provided with access
to ISI courseware on laptops. This gives them opportunity
to study a wide range of subjects from home so they don’t
have to worry about arranging for child care. Technology allows
program managers to monitor the students’ progress from
wherever they have access to the Internet.
Whether developing
Office Worker skills…working towards certification as
a Nurse Assistant…or brushing up on basic academic skills,
ISI courseware and this laptop program give students the freedom
and convenience of studying at home -- on their own time and
at their own pace. The ISI Web-based management system gives
instructors and students the assessment tools to track time
on task and scores achieved. Instructors can view student
reports and provide instruction and intervention on an ongoing
basis.
